The unlikely story of a Girl Gang

Have you ever seen the film John Tucker Must Die? You know, the one where the guy is seeing three different girls behind their backs, then they all find out and come together to create the best revenge plot to break his heart. A beloved rom-com for its outlandish tale that breached the normal conception of what would happen in this scenario. And whilst I’ve said I would love to live the life of a teenage rom-com, never did I actually think it would come true. Especially this way…. I was hoping for more of a Princess Diary’s kinda vibe if that shit ever happened.

So, like every Rom-Com I’ll set the scene…

On a chilly afternoon, a girl with her foot in a cast boot (yeah I’m clumsy and broke my foot skipping on some steps, no judging!) went to get a hot drink to warm her up. But she got more than she bargained for that day, as over the steam of that drink, a steamy romance was brewing. The “odd drink” at that bar became a regular occurrence and the flirting over coffee soon turned into romantic dates.

Cut to the next scene

The same boy, begs another girl to take him back, professing his love for her. But what’s this? I hear you cry. Our original romantic knight in shining armour turned out to be a regular twat in tin foil? Yeah pretty much. The arsehole was seeing both girls at the same time and thought he could get away with it!

But our hero turned wanker underestimated our fine new heroines. No longer were they the damsels in distress but fierce ass queens who would successfully take him down.

After a drink one night, I drunkenly viewed this guy’s ex-girlfriends, instagram story by accident, and as I had been stalking her a lot (again no judgement, we all do it guys!) my profile went to the top of who viewed her story, which she obviously saw and from there Heather messaged me asking if we could talk. We spent the entire night comparing dates, times, locations and screenshots and worked out the entire torrid affair that had been happening under both our noses. Now a lot of people would expect us to hate each other, the social rules dictate you can’t be mates with the ex-girlfriends, let alone the other woman. But one thing could be said for this guy, he had taste in girls. We found we are both so similar and became fast friends as we brewed this plot to take him down. We planned to go on a night out together and for her to invite him out, then I would pop up out of nowhere and we would confront him together.

I should add at this point, that whilst seeing this guy I had my suspicions that something was going on between him and Heather, not the extent of what it was though. I was expecting more just drunk texting, not this! Little things fuelled my suspicion like us using her Netflix, a pack of razors when he had a beard, him turning his snapmaps on and off ghost mode, and finally the red toothbrush. I just knew in my gut it wasn’t his, and I was damn right! The toothbrush payed on my mind the most as I could just about justify the others, but the toothbrush just gnawed away at me. All my mates didn’t believe me about the brush and said I needed to chill and I was thinking too much into it, but the small triumph knowing I was right is a nice little ego boost for my gut instinct.

Now I was petrified to meet this girl, it’s all good and well messaging like we’re mates and all, but actually coming down to the nitty gritty was something else. We met in bar, each with a mate for moral support and true to us being so similar, we were even wearing matching jackets! (denim jacket gang forever) After going for a few drinks, we went to this guy’s work place, a club in town, where all the staff knew them as a couple, and we partied away whilst we waited for him to arrive. After strawpedoing a few too many VKs I was, what you would say, quite impaired and didn’t see when he walked through the door, so missed the bastard’s expression! But I saw my mate’s eyes widen as she was talking to me and I could suddenly feel a stiff tense air behind me… I knew he had arrived.

Sticking true to our RomCom dramatic style, we sat him down in the middle of the two of us and started questioning, quoting things he had said to the other, pulling out dates where he had been sneaking around, bombarding him with the lies he had been telling us. His eyes were like the lost soul of a boy who knew he was damned, not knowing whether to run or scream. (yeah it was crazy satisfying can’t lie) Our mates even bought us tequila shots which we clinked over him! At this point it was all too much for our hero turned villain and he wanted out, so me and my new comrade linked arms and followed him out to continue the battle. After a few more exchanged words he decided it was too much and left, fair enough, he had stayed in the first place. So it was done, we had actually pulled off the plan of the century! (Elle Wood snaps for us!) We partied the rest of the night away in celebration and left the club when the sun came up, and in very un romcom like manner we stumbled back to Heathers mate Mollies house at 6am looking very worse for wear.

And honestly, this has been one of the best things that has happened this year, because through it I have made some incredible mates along the way who I am truly grateful for being in my life. It’s not often you can say, you’ve done something as crazy and empowering as confronting a situation that should have made you weak and miserable, and turning it into a positive. We are there to support each other when we’re having a weak moment or down about it all. The girls and I are the example of girl power I feel, and I will be fiercely proud of what we’ve achieved. That night was the first of many and now we regularly go party and end back at Mollies in bed eating a mountain of chicken nuggets, we even go see shows together. I’ve found my soul sisters.

See....Denim Jacket gang forever
