I've taken a step in Frankenstein's Creature's feet, have you?
The current project I have undertaken is creating the feet of The Creature from Nick Dear's adaptation of the Mary Shelly classic "Frankenstein" Part of designing costumes is creating something 3D from a 2D design to show the makers, directors and actors what your creation will look like when made. When designing the feet I knew I wanted mine to look alive, not dead, and to look like they had been dragged though blood. I started painting a rough coloured idea of how these should look.

From here I then started thinking about the overall shape I wanted the feet to be, The Creature has been sourced from a range of dead bodies of course. The more bulbous the better when these fiendish feet were concerned! Once I had done experimenting to create the perfect creepy shape I drew a sharp and precise outline of the side, front, back and plan elevations sot that the maker could get a 360 view of the design

Now for the really fun part
I swapped my feet designs with one of my peers and we made each others feet out of paper mache!
This involved taking a large amount of measurements to ensure the model fits. So in true Deacon style I wore my unicorn socks to be measured up in!
For the making process I made a base that extended the size of the foot so the toes would fit at the end of my partners feet and made it very wide as her design was filled with bunions. I then attached the Vamp and heal pattern pieces made out of card to this. Next up was the gruesome large toes which are less scarily made out of balled up newspaper! From here it was just a case of building up the paper mache to create a foot like texture with veins and very large ankles I must say!
My partners design also featured a large and bloody gash across both feet so to achieve this I used liquid latex (Halloween Style) and tissue, as well as a huge amount of fake blood!!
You ready for the big reveal?

Ta Da!
Really gruesome huh?
These were for sure really fun to make in a week and a good project to do, although now my room is covered in glue and fake blood!
